Dear Hockey Fans:

Slap shots in the driveway, dry land in the park and nights at the rink—its hockey time in the Midwest and the start of another Iowa High School Hockey League season. Welcome players, parents and fans to an action packed season of high school hockey.

The League says farewell and following seas to our former Referee-in-Chief Mr. Keith Hendrickson who retired this summer after six seasons. We are extremely grateful for Keith’s service and wish him the best of luck in the future. The League welcomes both Mr. Del Donaldson of Waterloo who has accepted the position as IHSHL Referee-In-Chief and the Cedar Rapids Mustangs as they team-up with the Dubuque Devils this season.

At this time I salute all of our former players, coaches and league officials. They have paved a path for us to follow. This year has provided even more hope to our players as they continue to “live the dream”. During the National Hockey League draft two prior IHSHL players were selected and at the same time our alumni list of players moving up and on continues to grow. The Junior and College scouts can no longer ignore the Midwest players and it is our league that is leading the way.

As always we salute our senior players and their parents. May your final high school season be rewarding and provide memories that last a lifetime. I challenge all involved to take the time and thank our volunteers, without them the games would not be played.

I would be remiss in not recognizing the Executive Committee and their efforts to institutionalize an environment that is conducive to a high level of fair competition. The Committee’s theme this year is communications, focusing specifically in opening dialogue among the high school officials across three states. It is their heartfelt wish that the season be one of growing, both academically and athletically. On behalf of the league’s officers and directors, we wish each team and their members the best for the season.

Sincerely,

Shawn Spencer
President, IHSHL
