Omaha Gladiators Return,
Micki Frost Retires

ANKENY, Iowa — The big news coming out of the MHSHL spring meeting, Saturday, May 10, was granting a request by the Omaha Gladiators to join the League for the 2008-09 season. The Gladiators return after a 5-year absence, bringing the total number of teams in the circuit to 14. The Gladiators were members of the IHSHL from 1989 to 2003, earning one regular-season championship in 1992-93.

For scheduling purposes the League will be divided into East and West divisions. Teams will play a 32-game regular-season schedule, facing off three times against teams in their division and two times against teams in the opposite division. The top eight Varsity and JV teams will qualify for the season-ending tournaments based on total points earned in all games.

East: Ames, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines Capitals, Dubuque, Mason City, Quad City, Waterloo.

West: Des Moines Oak Leafs, Kansas City Jr. Outlaws, Kansas City Stars, Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City, Tri-City.

Everyone wishes their best to Micki Frost, who attended her last meeting as League Secretary after eight years of service. Frost announced her retirement at the end of the just completed season. Greg Ehlers of Omaha was elected to fill the vacancy on the Executive Board. Ehlers will take over as League Scheduler and Dave Fox will manage the Secretarial duties.
