FALL MEETING NEWS: USA Hockey Announces hs National Championships, Showcase Moves to Pittsburgh

ANKENY, Iowa — Sat, Oct 3: During the League’s annual fall meeting, team reps voted to send the MHSHL regular-season champion to the first-ever USA Hockey High School Nationals in Chicago. It was also announced that the Chicago Showcase will move to Pittsburgh.

This summer, USA Hockey announced that the first-ever High School Nationals will be staged April 14-18, 2010, in Chicago. During the recently held League meeting, team reps voted to invite the MHSHL regular-season champion to represent the Mid-West Affiliate at the event. USA Hockey is still formulating ground rules for the event. Watch for more details as the season progresses.

It was also announced that the Chicago Showcase will move to Pittsburgh in 2010. The event will be called USA Hockey America’s High School Showcase. It is also tentatively scheduled for April 14-18. Since the Showcase team is a project of the Mid-West Affiliate, last year’s Showcase coach, Chris Schmale, attended the League meeting and encouraged the MHSHL to offer their continued support for this worthwhile event, despite the move to the Eastern U.S. The League agreed that it would continue to assist and encourage the League’s players to try out for the Showcase team.

It was also voted to do away with goal judges during the upcoming regular season and tournament play. The results of this decision will be evaluated at the spring meeting.
